Matthew's Production Log

Week 1
In the first week we were told to form groups, my group consisted of four people, however, one person left resulting in only three people Jainisha, Nasima and I. We were told to do a preliminary task, we did our preliminary task three times, the first time we did it we did not have enough footage so we had to film again which once again we did not have enough footage and the third time we did not have much time to complete it so we quickly assigned roles and just did the basic 180 degree angle rule, shot reverse shot and match on action, after we filmed we edited it on iMovie and after that was done we had to analyse and evaluate, a couple of days later Nikita joined our group.

Week 2
During the second week we started to do research, the first things we were to to do was to make a company name which we decided to be Beacon hills Productions we then had to do three rough drafts of our logo. We also had to create a company email for all of us to use. We then had to make a company ident, we used Adobe After-effects to create it and at first we were going to go for an ident similar to Comedy Central because it was simple but then we thought that it might remind the audience of Comedy Central and think our company was a comedic one, we then settled for a lighthouse shining a light over the company name.
We had to start doing our shot by shot remake soon after, we wanted to do the opening scene from Revenge of the Bridesmaids but it was much harder than we taught and did the opening scene from Footloose.

Week 3
During the third week we were behind a little because we had to still shoot our shot by shot remake, before we started to film we had to do a shot list which list all the shots we will take and for how long. We also had to analyse and opening of your choice, I did Men in Black we had to analyse it using MECS. After we did our shot by shot remake we were told to choose a genre to do our final product on, we all had different ideas such as Thriller but then we chose sports drama because it is simple and not many people do it.

Week 4
I this week we had to analyse two openings from our chosen genre's using MECS, I chose Coach Carter and Money ball.

Week 5
We has to split research on different theorist and I did Todorov's theory narrative structure and that it only has three steps.

Week 6
In the sixth week I did research on key directors who directed sports films and I did the director of one of my favourite sports dramas Bennett Miller who directed Moneyball

Week 7
During week seven we had to start planning, this included coming up with two ideas and titles for the ideas. Then for the idea you liked the most you had to write a script for it. We showed our script to everyone in the group and then we had to decide who's script we'd choose and in the end we chose Nikita's script.

Week 8
We did script annotation, since my job role was to be camera man I had to work with the director to annotate what shots will go where.

Week 9


Week 10
I this week  we did the breakdown on Nikita's script.

Week 11
During week eleven we did our technical and location recce.

Week 12

Week 14
We edited the test shoot.

Week 15


Week 16


Week 17
I had to do a new shot list as we decided to re-do the opening scene.

Week 18
This week we started to do our shoot.

Week 19
We had to film everything again because the settings on the camera cause the footage to look very grainy.

Week 20
This week we edited our footage which took longer than we all expected.

Week 21
We finished editing the final product and began our evaluation.
