Nasima's Production Log

Week 1

In the first week we choose our own groups. At first the group consisted of only three people, this included me, Matthew and Jainisha. Our first preliminary task was really bad so we decided to make another one. I the new one we ran out of time and I was chosen to be the actor. We couldn't find anyone else on such short notice so I had stepped up for the role. Matthew was the cameraman, he had the most experience with the camera. I was the main director but my group was also involved to talk about what would be the best angle to shoot from. In the preliminary task we had to focus mainly on shot-reverse-shots, the 180 degree rule and match on action. The footage was then edited on iMove and once we finished it we has to analyse and evaluate the preliminary. A fourth member, Nikita had joined afterwards.

Week 2
During the second week we had began to research. We had to come up with a name and a logo for our production company. After a while we came up with the name BeaconHills and came up with thee rough drafts for our logo. We also created a company email where each of us had access to it. Using Adobe After-effects we created an ident. We settled for a lighthouse that lit up the company name. We thought that the ident went really well with the company's name. At first we decided to call it 'Red bridge' but BeaconHills was a popular choice in our group. Once this was done we began to plan the shot by shot remake. At first we wanted to do 'Revenge of the Bridesmaids' but when watching the opening and attempting to film, we realised it was a lot harder to do and required props that would take a while to make.

Week 3
In this week we began to research into another film that would be a little less difficult to do. We choose 'Footloose'. This was much easier do to as we only had one shot, the editing took a while. We didn't have a lot of time because we were still researching films to do the remake on. A shot list was created to make the filming process shorter. We had to write about a film opening of our choice. I picked 'Maze Runner' and analysed it using MECS. After doing this we were told to choose a genre to do the final product on at first we decided on Thriller but we released that a lot of student openings where all Thriller, so we decided to do a sports drama because not a lot of the openings where about that.

Week 4
We analysed film openings to help us have an insight as too what these sports dramas were meant to look like. I did 'Balls out' and 'Win Win'.

Week 5
I Looked at Laura Mulvey 1975, the 'Male Gaze' for my story and narrative. I also looked at Gender for my representation.

Week 6
I did research on key directors. I did Christopher Nolan who did the Batman films. I chose him because he was a good example of a director that has several trademarks

Week 7
During the seventh week we began planning. Each group member came up with initial ideas that had film ideas and titles for the film. We also began to write up a script for one of the ideas. We first looked at the conventions of a script. We annotated a script from a opening scene of a film. This helped us get a better understanding on script writing and things to include. When reviewing the scripts as a group we discussed who's script would be better to use for our opening. We decided to use Nikita's script because it was the best out of the others and he ideas were good.

Week 8
We annotated Nikita's script to make sure that if follows the genre convention. Nikita then completeed the final script.

Week 9
In this week we looked at job roles of each person. We did this by researching what we were. I was the director again, Matthew was still the cameraman, Jainisha was the sound designer and Nikita was the production designer. However we all decided to edit together.

Week 10
We did script breakdowns and analysed the script even further. Each person broke it down in the roles they played.

Week 11
We did the location and technical Reece. We checked out three separate locations for the doctors office. We decided on the place that was good in terms of sound and lighting.

Week 12
We began casting for our film opening. A few people auditioned for us and in the end we decided on the characters who suited the most.

Week 13
For our test shoot we chose the actors and the locations we wanted. This was to see if the locations will work and to see what the actors will be like on camera. This was also to see if any problems would occur. When filming the doctor couldn't make it and so Jainisha was replacing him.

Week 14
Test shoot was edited

Week 18
We began filming. Each of us had a copy of the script. During filming we found the the lighting in the doctors office was way to bright. We didn't know that the expose was so high. Turns out our experience cameraman didn't realise it at the time either. But we were able to control it to some extent by taking out one of the light bulbs. We only found out that the footage was too grainy when we checked it on the macs.

Week 19
We filmed the opening all over again because of the grainy footage. This time around the expose was not too high and we managed to film everything. However the doctor didn't show up and after some consideration I decided to fill that role.

Week 20
We began to edit the footage and at the end of the week we produced a rough cut. We edited the footage on premier pro, a software none of us were familiar with but with all members present we managed to figure it out.

Week 21
We created the final cut and began the evaluation questions.
