Genre Importance

Genre Importance

Genre is very essential especially for the audience as well as the film writers. This is because genre gives an idea of what needs to be in the script and give meaning to the film. For example, in romance films there is always love in the film, in an action film there’s always violence. Without genre the film has no type, the audience wouldn’t be able to identify what type of film it is and then may not even watch the film since everyone has their own taste in films. It’s important to follow the conventions especially in the opening otherwise it would look very odd and unprofessional, it will also lead to confusion for the audience.

Target Audience Profile

This example of our target audience is shown through her facebook page where you can see details about her, as well as things she may like. For example, below you can see Jessica's date of birth is 12th May 1996. As she is 20, she fits in with our target audience. This is important as she will be able to relate to the emotional pull of our film.

From the screenshot below, you can see that Jessica likes films from multiple genres. Fight Club is a famous sports film whereas The Boy in the Striped Pajamas has been described multiple times as a "tear-jearker". This is key to our film's success because our film provides both the emotional journey of a drama as well as the action of a sports film, neatly combined into one film.

Preliminary Task Analysis

In my preliminary task, I was in charge of the camera work and script.

The script was more difficult than I had expected as generating an idea or theme to use through the clip was hard. The final script wasn't long enough either, it only came up to 51 seconds. A possible (and most likely) reason for this is because I hadn't set out enough time for me to create a brand new script from scratch and so it was rushed.

The camera work was difficult in that I didn't have much experience with it. One of the places it's most obvious is that one of the actors is closer to the camera than the other and could possibly be jarring for the audience. There are some other mistakes throughout the video such as at the beginning when the shot is not in focus and you can hear my voice. In the future, I'll make sure to review the clips I've shot before using them.

Our preliminary task was mostly well done. For our final film opening, we'll need to review the clips before using them and make a routine to make sure we completely fine-tune our skills.

Potential Logos

This was my first idea for a logo. I thought it would be a good idea to focus on the name rather than have a logo as such so that our production company would be seen as professional and serious.

This is my second potential logo. In this one, I combined both aspects - the design aswell as the name of the company. I thought that it would be more professional than the previous one because it isn't as simple.
